Air-dropping sensitive medical supplies or landing a probe on Mars requires careful thought and intelligent engineering. In almost all cases there are strict limitations on the amount of space and weight in the plane or rocket. With these restrictions in mind, you will engineer a capsule for a fragile piece of equipment, (an egg), and drop it from a height of several meters. Working alone or in pairs, students will use a variety of materials to devise a safe landing capsule for their egg. We will look to modern technology as well as the natural world for inspiration when creating our egg drop capsules. Capsules will be judged on the success of the drop, and also on the volume and weight of materials used.
