Geology

This event is no longer on sale.

Wednesday March 18

9:45 AM  –  11:15 AM

A rock is a rock, correct? Not so! Learn the basics of geology by examining typical North Carolina rocks and practice identifying and classifying them. After reviewing the formation of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks, we will learn to read a geologic map of North Carolina, and classify our geologic specimens. Teams will use their specimens to determine the best rock types used as building materials and discuss why they are, or are not, good materials for construction.

Note: Parents do not need to attend the lab with their child but do need to remain in the Museum.

Children must be 11 years of age or older to register them for this program.
